From Thursday 1st April 2021, the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates will increase at the start of the new financial year. Increases are due to happen on 1st April every year to include all National Minimum Wage rates, Apprentice rates and the National Living Wage rate.
See below the new rates for 2021:
National Living Wage (25 years old and over) - £8.91 ph
National Minimum Wage (21 to 22 years old) - £8.36 ph
National Minimum Wage (18 to 20 years old) - £6.56 ph
National Minimum Wage (under 18 years old) - £4.62 ph
National Minimum Wage (apprentice rate*) - £4.30 ph
*If under 19 or in first year of apprenticeship (otherwise refer to age bands). The apprenticeship rate does not apply to Higher Level Apprenticeships.
How can you ensure you are prepared for the changes?
Make sure you are clearly aware of the new minimum wage rates.
Check that you know who is eligible for which rate in your organisation.
Apply the rate through your payroll at the right time.
