JAM Card allows people with learning, autism or communication difficulties to tell others they need 'Just A Minute'.
Riada attended the JAM Card & Disability Awareness Training held by the Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council on Thursday 13th February 2020. The 3 hour training workshop, organised by the Town and Village Management team and facilitated by Skills Trainer Cheryl Ball from the Now Group, took attendees through a very informative session, covering key aspects such as:
The barriers that people with disabilities may face
Disability legislation
Perceptions and attitudes around disability
Reasonable adjustment
Communication barriers and effective communication
Ways of becoming a more disability friendly business/organisation
With over 500 businesses already signed up to the training scheme across Northern Ireland, Riada wanted to increase our awareness and knowledge of different types of disabilities and be part of a community that promotes and delivers a better service to candidates, by becoming a JAM Card Friendly Organisation.
Key points to note:
JAM Card allows people with a learning difficulty, autism or communication barrier to tell others they need ‘Just A Minute’ discreetly and easily.
Those with a communication barrier are often reluctant or unable to tell others about their condition. JAM Card allows this to happen in a simple, effective non-verbal manner.
JAM Card was originally developed for those with learning disabilities and difficulties. However, it can be used by anyone with a communication barrier. For instance, JAM Card can be used by people with Asperger’s or autism. It can also be used by those who have suffered brain injuries and people who otherwise feel self-conscious about their ability to effectively communicate when engaging with others.
There are now over 35,000 JAM Card users across UK and Ireland.
